“On any given day, the story of “who I am” can be told in many ways, with every potential storyline holding some part of a fuller truth. Depending on life’s circumstance, the dominant storyline that we choose can be optimistic and open, bitter and resigned, or somewhere in-between.
Everyone of us, in some ways, is “blessed” to be in this world; and every one of us is “cursed”. The balance between blessings and curses with vary from person to person, and yet each of us has the potential to shift our relationship with our given circumstances. The more we are able to do the hard work of the Death Lodge, healing wounds already incurred, the freer we may be to choose a storyline that is present tense, life-affirming, and open to the future.
“I forgive me”, “I forgive you” and please forgive me” offer the possibility of saying a more resounding “thank you” to life. A fuller version might be, “Thank you for the bounties I do have, right now, and thank you for the possibilities that the future may bring.”
