This one I painted in 2014. It’s called “it wasn’t me “.
It’s got a cheeky energy and something of the comic or graphic novel. I am a great fan of Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett‘s work and many of the classic cartoons created by Hanna-Barbera in the 60’s & 70’s. I also love the work of Miro, Kandinsky and Klee.
I took this photo as I worked, recording the zingy vibrancy of the inks when wet. Yet to take one of the finished work! .. It’s on the to do list
I love working in watercolour media. I use Dr PH Martin’s Hydrus inks as well as inktense and watercolour pencils, charcoal and watercolour paint. It’s all about the happy accident and playing with dry and wet areas of the paper.
I start the painting with my eyes closed. Feeling into my heart and calling in spirit. I take a wet brush and draw quickly across the page making marks that express the sensations I feel. These marks are almost invisible, so when I start to draw with the ink, the magic happens as I travel from wet to dry and the dance of line and colour begins.
