Overstory

Really enjoying reading Richard Powers book “Overstory”

One passage particulary touched me.

“you and the tree in your backyard come from a common ancestor. A billion and a half years ago, the two of you parted ways. But even now. after an immense journey in separate directions, that tree and you still share a quarter of your genes….”

Thinking about our journey with all trees, how fundamental they have been for all our needs. Nowadays, many of us are removed from a direct hands on relationship and barely acknowledge their existence and the precious gifts they continue to give us.

With the rise in disease such as Ash die back and our industry of monocropping I wonder if we can turn this relationship around and save each other or we will perish together.
