Wanders for wellbeing – Shinrin-yoku & forest therapy

Wanders for wellbeing

All through my life I have found great healing, inspiration and joy spending time in Nature. It has always been essential to my all round well being.  I walk slowly every day in the woods, gathering little treasures of natural wonder, feeling the elements on my skin and opening up to see and hear the plants, trees and woodland inhabitants. I have discovered that this daily practice has been named Shinrin-yoku  (forest bathing) by the Japanese. I call them Wanders for Wellbeing.

Since the 1980’s the Japanese have been conducting studies into the health benefits of spending time in the Forest. All over the world there is arising more and more scientific evidence for what we know to be true… Nature is good for you. It’s where we come from. We are part of it. We evolved with it. It is our natural environment, as opposed to the concrete cities we have created.  It is through our separation that we are getting sick and the environment is getting sick without us tending and respecting it.

However, the tide is turning and embracing a regular dose of Nature into your life, however that looks, is the first step. The trees are waiting for you and I’m here to help.

My Wanders for Wellbeing invite space for a shift from the business of your mind to the peace of your heart. This enables one to meet oneself gently and feel the kinship of all life around you. From this place of connection arises the opportunity for healing and inspiration.

On a wander I offer invitations to awaken and engage all your senses and stir your imagination. I help you to slow down and let go of your busy mind to find pleasure, awe and wonder in the moment. I offer a non-judgemental and supportive safe space to share with others on the walk your insights and experience. Each wander is concluded with a rustic tea ceremony with tea made from locally foraged plants.

“Arriving with some heaviness – the stuff of life weighing me somewhat. The journey took me into my being, took my being into connection with nature – lifted me, held me, then let me fly. Thank you for the gift of today. ” – Kim 2018

Here’s a little poem I wrote when sitting with a tree one day.

I am here with you.

We fit, lovingly curious

Listening with inner ears and dreaming senses.

Wanders are generally 2 to 3 hour sessions for small groups  or can be a whole day for larger groups or specially themed sessions. The journey covers a distance no more than two miles tops and the pace is gentle and slow.

Want to commit to the practice? Treat yourself to a four season pass. Deepening your relationship to yourself and the natural world through out the year.

If you prefer a private session for yourself, your family or a group of your choosing Contact me and I’d be happy to arrange a date and time.
